At least you're still young enough to have good enough hearing that merits the need for ear plugs. When you're truly an old man, ear plugs might not be necessary regardless.

Adam

I always used them in college, and I use them on youth group trips for sure and other times when I'm on trips with people who snore.

But...almost 100% of the time, I'll wake up and I'll have one in - the other one will have come out during the night. And I'm always lying on it - I can't tell you why, or how that works - but I'm always lying on it. It's always there...

I can block out almost any type of dorm/camp/youth group all-nighter noise, but I CANNOT sleep when someone is snoring. When I was younger, the sound of my dad snoring in the next room would keep me up sometimes (it was so loud I could hear it through the walls!). I remember a few family vacations when I couldn't find earplugs at the local store, and I attempted many creative strategies for blocking out noise (wrapping a towel around my bed, sleeping in the bathroom, plugging my ears with my fingers while sleeping - none successfully eliminated the noise).

But a couple years ago at a children's ministry conference, our director gave me some of the best earplugs ever - Mack's pillow soft earplugs. They are the white silicone type that conform perfectly to your ear. They are totally comfortable in your ears, and you don't hear any of the weird scratching noise when your ear rubs against your pillow.

Sweet dreams - ear plugs don't make you old!

Earplugs have been my sleep salvation. While I wish I did not need them, the sad reality of my life is that even the sound of another person BREATHING can keep me awake. I forgot to bring them one year on a Mexico mission trip and I was awake ALL night due to the sounds of (nighttime) barking dogs and snoring and (as soon as the sun began to rise) crowing roosters. How much did I hate my life that week?

And now, still living in the dorms for my 6th year as well, I still wear them every night. If that means I'm elderly too, then sign me up. Let's hit Denny's at 4pm today for the Senior Special!

You could look into the model that I have. they may be a bit pricey but I tell ya, they work great. there could be a crying baby on the other side of your bed and you won't hear a thing, although it doesn't work when the crying baby is stratigically placed next to you in bed. that is the only downfall.
On mission trips and student ministry events it works out great also. although once again there was one instance that two people on the other side of the room were snoring in perfect harmony and of course I was not able to block out their snoring. oh yes! I almost forgot to tell you the name of the ear plugs, they are called hard-of-hearing and they work great if you can avoid having a crying baby placed next to you while sleeping or being in a room of two people snoring in perfect harmony.

Liam, I know I am random. For more support for this argument, please see: the rest of this blog. Or, talk to me. :)

but what about the alarm clock....?

I absolutely HATE putting things like earplugs in my ears. Or headphones for that matter. I think I might have a smaller ear canal opening or something - all I know is that it's totally uncomfortable to put anything in there and that I cannot do it for longer than 5 minutes at a time.
