I was a tourist today. Corn Palace. Wall Drug. Mount Rushmore. Crazy Horse (...which I did not actually see. I drove in and out because it cost $10, and that is exorbitant.) Almost went to see Laura Ingalls Wilder's home, but it was too far off of the beaten path. Sorry, Laura. I still love you, though. A long day today, but I actually enjoyed the drive. Drove a few scenic routes and spent time with the windows down.
Tonight I checked into my motel in Sheridan after nearly 600 miles of driving. Front Desk Guy was nice and helpful. Got to my room, didn't look too bad...I always check the bathroom for any grossness and take the bedspread off of the bed to make sure nothing is going to be harmful to my mental, physical, or spiritual health. Everything looked fine.
Here's where the fun comes in. Went to go shut the curtains and as soon as I touched the wand, BOOM!, the whole curtain unit dropped from the window and into my arms. I stood there for a second and realized that curtains and curtain rods are heavy! Then, I realized that if I were on the 2nd or 3rd floor, this wouldn't really be a problem, but since I am on ground level, I should ask the Front Desk Guy to help me. He came to my room...
"So, I went to close my curtains, and they fell off" I said. "What did you do?" he asked. "I touched the wand, and BOOM!"
(Here's the kicker...) He says to me, "Are you sure that you weren't swinging from it?"
Wait. What?
I smile and patiently say, "I am sure that I wasn't swinging from the curtains." (What? Do people often swing from curtains at this motel?)
After a little balking on his part and some stubborn persistence on mine, he moved me to another room. About the last room, I think he didn't believe me. After giving me the new room, he said, "The last guy in there must have done something with those curtains."
Wow. I'll try not to swing from these curtains. Promise.

Bro, you don't have to lie to make friends. I remember being on a road-trip with you, and I *specifically* remember you requesting a room with an extra sturdy curtain rod.

I loved Wall Drug (where else can you get free ice water?). Felt that I should have passed up the Corn Palace.
