"Knowledge may have its purposes,
but guessing is always
more fun than knowing."
- from W.H. Auden's Archeology
Auden's words speak well to this trip of mine...I usually like to plan my road trips, but in these days of freedom, I am finding that guessing is more fun. A total of 408 miles of driving today, Somerset to Indianapolis.
Today I learned that Western Pennsylvania is beautiful...so pastoral.
Lunch: Upon the recommendation of a new friend in Spokane, I visited Skyline Chili in Columbus. If you are ever in Ohio, stop there. SO GOOD.
Dinner: Cracker Barrel in Indianapolis. I felt southern in there, and somehow my latent Texan accent found its way to the surface after a few years under the radar. Grits...bacon...toast with apple butter...eggs...sweet tea. Mmm. Health food.
Stopped in Wheeling, WV. Umm...apparently there are NO public restrooms there. In my search, I did stop by Goodwill. No bathroom, but I did get a cool hat. Not a total loss.
Songs that stick out today...
:: Hide & Seek, Imogen Heap
:: Eyes, Rogue Wave
:: Miner's Refrain, Gillian Welch
:: Heretics, Andrew Bird
:: Carry Me, Patty Griffin
:: Carried Me, Jeremy Camp
I had some good time thinking and praying today...good to hang out with Jesus on the road. However, I was glad to be done with driving today, I think there were about 4,993 semi's on the road! I am going to get some sleep tonight, and will see where tomorrow leads! Texas will not be a reality it is a little too far out of the way...but Colorado and Idaho, maybe! Thanks to a few of you for the phone calls!
Peace,
Josh
Josh,
Looks like you've been reading some Auden...good stuff. Wait until you get to the poem about his bathroom (in 'Thanksgiving for a Habitat')--best ever.
Drive safe, friend.

Way to go, M.Div grad. I like it that you're posting your adventures across the way - helps those of us to see the US in places we've never been - sorry about the bathroom situation in W. Va. though ... keep up the blogging!
