Buechner: A Film.

Buechner_1Molly Collins, a brilliant friend from Covenant and PTS, has had more creative jobs in her short life than anyone I know.  She's great.

She has created a film with a friend of hers on the life and ministry of author and pastor Frederick Buechner.  It is entitled Buechner.  Check out the website, where you can watch a portion of the interview.  It is available for purchase on that site, and also on Amazon.  Support independent filmmakers, friends!

Buechner is one of the authors I now also consider a mentor.  I simply want to devour much of his work.  The authenticity with which he approaches his faith and his doubt, and his ability to get to the heart of the matter allows me to also approach my faith in a similar way.  If you haven't read any Buechner, consider reading one of his memoirs, such as The Sacred Journey or Telling Secrets.

Another Crash.

(If you thought I was kidding about being moved by the film, Crash...get this.  I saw it again today.)

Crash.

Wallpaper_dad_1024_1

"We're always behind this metal and glass. In any real city, people brush past people, bump into them. ... I think we miss that touch so much that we crash into each other just so we can touch somebody."

Has anyone seen Crash?

A beautiful and unnerving film about the intertwined lives of men and women in Los Angeles, this film exposes the pain, fear, judgment, and reality of racism and its affects in America.

Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Thandie Newton, Matt Dillon, and Michael Pena are among the actors that star in the film.

Though the movie was not perfect, it was stirring.  I left the movie in silence, and walked out into the hot, bright parking lot in a bit of a daze.  As I now prepare for leading liturgy in church tomorrow, I am reminded (as I have been many times before) about the prayer of confession that we, all of us, must make for our ignorance, fear, and our ability to push the Other aside.

Has anyone seen Crash?  If so, let's dialogue about it here.  If not, please, go see it.
